History
We were founded December 1994 as a no-kill rescue organization. We were awarded our IRS 501 (c)3 non-profit tax exempt status February 1996.

Mission
Foster and place adoptable shelter dogs into permanent homes; assist in increasing adoptions of shelter dogs by promoting awareness and working with area shelter; and to educate our community to be responsible dog owners.

What we do
Conduct weekly shelter checks to select the dogs we are able to place in foster care. Foster and rehabilitate shelter dogs so they are healthy and prepared for placement into new homes. Screen and conduct home checks of new adopters. Take back dogs who's adoptions did not work out. Help dog owners who must return their dogs for legitimate reasons. Provide extraordinary veterinary care to shelter dogs in need of blood work, surgeries and x-rays. Hold weekly "Meet 'n Greet" information booths at area pet supply stores. Some of our dogs are brought in and made available for the public to meet. Make referrals to callers who want a purebred dog. Publish a quarterly newsletter, Doggy Tales, which offers information about dog health, training and responsible dog ownership.

License
We comply with the Pet Animal Care Facilities Act (PACFA) and are inspected and licensed every year to conduct dog rescue through the Colorado State Department of Agriculture, Office of the State Veterinarian.

How we are different from other rescue organizations?
We are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for the work we do.

We foster every dog we place.

Our foster home care for only one foster dog at a time.

We focus on rescuing shelter dogs before they are euthanized.

We provide full veterinary care to every foster dog including: annual shots, rabies shots, bordatella vaccine, tattooing, fecal exams, medications for kennel cough, parasites or other infections.

We spay or neuter every dog before being placed into new homes.

We provide problem behavior resolution for our dogs while in foster with the help of our on-staff dog behavior counselors, preparing them for placement.

We will rescue dogs from the shelter which need extraordinary medical care and would otherwise not be adoptable.

We help our foster dogs with house training, crate training, leash training and house manners.

We do not hold adoption fairs in which a dog will be adopted out on the same day. Instead, we have a stringent screening process and conduct home checks of every adopter.

We are members of the Better Business Bureau, the only dog/pet related organization in the Colorado Springs area with this distinction.
